What is Microblading?
Many of you may be totally new to microblading, and although you have heard about someone you know having recently had it, you’re still unsure about what is involved. Here at Brows by Femi, we take the gentle approach to microblading.
No two clients, never mind two brows, are the same, so the treatment is tailor made for each individual client for a truly bespoke treatment, and end result.
Everyone has their own unique facial morphology, so great care is taken to precisely measure and mark the brow placement before the pre-drawn shape is created. The length and thickness of the brow is determined according to face shape and bone structure, and also checked for perfect symmetry using a specialised digital app.
When the brows are perfectly shaped and drawn the tattooing can begin. Microblading is a form of semi permanent make up, meaning it is a tattoo that will not leave any traces of pigment in the skin after a certain period of time. Usually 12 months or so. The difference with this type of tattoo and a tattoo that is done with a machine, is that the machine work will leave traces of pigments after a period of time, even after the tattoo has faded. The pigment is implanted into the deeper layer of the skin.
Generally the most stable pigment that is left in the skin is iron oxide, which is the red colour that makes up most pigment colours. That is why you see faded tattooed brows that appear red or pink. At Brows by Femi the pigments that are used are called Phi-pigments, from Phibrows. Each of the Phibrows pigments are made up with equally stable colours, therefore the pigment in the brows will fade evenly and will ever have that red tinge.
Now we have the perfect shape and pigment, it must be implanted into the skin. This is done with sterile, disposable microblading tools, designed to be able to mark the skin and gently implant pigment within it, mimicking the look of a hair stroke. This is called the first pass.
Next anesthetic is applied to the brow so that the same hair strokes can be bladed back over ever so gently. This is called pigment filling, and is the second pass over the strokes. It allows the microblading artist to go into the correct depth of skin, without going too deeply. Sometimes a third pass is needed, and then the pigment is rubbed into the skin and left for 5 to 7 minutes.
Once the pigment is cleaned off, the fresh, crisp and precise strokes remain and a new set of brows has been created.
Aftercare of the brows is very important for health and safety, for the colour retention and overall results of your microblading treatment. Be sure to follow all of the guidelines set out by your artist Femi for perfect results.
